Many times, certain drugs don’t do a good job with what they were designed to do. Take a recent drug that was designed to treat Alzheimer’s Disease. It was a bust but was found to be able to partially reverse hearing loss in mice. Whoa. So who cares about mice? It’s the first step for solving hearing loss in humans by regenerating the inner ear hair cells. Not only did the hair cells grow back, but they actually restored some of the hearing loss. According to Edwin Rubel, Ph.D., “there’s no questions that sometime in the future we will restore hearing in humans through regeneration.”
