Another study was released in the New England Journal of Medicine confirming that scientists have identified a new gene variant that seems to strongly raise the risk for Alzheimers. This gene also seems to harm memory and thinking in older people without dementia. Perhaps looking for a way to pinpoint those at risk has merits. Some neurologists and ENTs think that auditory processing difficulties are the way to predict early problems. The Synthetic Sentence Identification Test has been used in several studies with positive results. But it is very early to suggest that the SSI will turn out to be a good predictor. We will just have to wait for the studies to be done and the results posted.
