There are many similarities between Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) and ADHD.  In fact, the symptoms of ADHD and APD are the same; however, they are listed in reverse order. That means that the bottom of the list of symptoms for ADHD are actually the top of the list of APD symptoms. ADHD and Auditory Processing Disorders can co-exist. However, when testing for APD, it is important that the ADHD is addressed first. If it is not, it wil be difficult to determine if the child’s problems with focusing are due to an Auditotry Processing Disorder or because of the difficulties in maintaining focus caused by the ADHD.
